||The Swiss Packaging Institute (SVI) defends the interests of Swiss packaging companies in all branches and in particular those of its members vis � vis the authorities and others. Not being associated with any one technology or raw material, the SVI is in a good position to promote fully integrated or �holistic� packaging solutions and to ensure that the public image of this multidisciplinary industry truly reflects ecological as well as economic priorities. As a forum for packaging industry communication, the SVI seeks to promote the industry�s further development, in particular by means of optimum professional training at all levels throughout the industry. The SVI is also the industry�s main channel for contacts with the national organisations of other countries and with packaging specialists at the international level. The official headquarters of the SVI is in the Swiss federal capital, Berne. Serving the common interests of the Swiss packaging industry, the SVI offers members all the services expected from a trade association. These include:
� the promotion of dialogue through information forums and meetings of specialists, seminars, round tables
� the promotion of professional training at all levels through the widest possible range of professional training courses, ranging from one-day introductory sessions to courses lasting one year, the dissemination of know how
with the help of industry professionals in all branches, support for all levels of professional training
� the promotion of focused public relations through the preparation of appropriate documentation and trade publications, organisation of the SWISS STAR competition on an annual bases
� the promotion of a �holistic� approach to packaging through training and education, promoting greater wareness in the industry, publications and manuals
� ensuring competent industry representation at the level of the federal government through regular contacts with the authorities, collaboration in the relevant commissions and round tables
� positioning as spokesman for the Swiss packaging industry through media and public relations work on behalf of all packaging materials and technologies, providing packaging know-how and input to interest groups close to the industry, advertising to build up the membership.
